• About John S Auerbach PhD

    An accomplished instructor and author, Dr. John S. Auerbach currently works as an adjunct professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tennessee. In this role, he specializes in post-traumatic stress disorder. Also a visiting faculty member at the Southeast Florida Institute for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy and a faculty member in the Psychoanalytic Research Training Program at the Anna Freud Centre at the Yale Child Study Center, Dr. John S. Auerbach currently practices psychotherapy at his own office in Johnson City, Tennessee. He is also a research affiliate for the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine.

    Moreover, Dr. Auerbach is a member of the editorial board of the Israel Annual of Psychoanalytic Theory, Research and Practice and serves as a peer reviewer for the International Journal of Psychoanalysis and the Clinical Psychology Review. Dr. Auerbach has published articles in many medical journals, including Psychoanalytic Psychology, Psychotherapy Research, the European Journal of Personality, and Appalachian Psychoanalytic Society Viewpoints. He has also published essays, including "Symbolization and Desymbolization: Essays in Honor of Norbert Freedman," and "Relatedness, Self-Definition, and Mental Representation: Essays in Honor of Sidney J. Blatt."

    Dr. John S. Auerbach spent four years as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He was also an instructor in the Department of Psychology at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where, in 1988, he earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. During his undergraduate studies at Brown University, Dr. Auerbach was Executive Editor of the Brown Daily Herald.

    In his spare time, Dr. Auerbach enjoys cycling, traveling, and listening to jazz and blues music.
